Kia Ora to all of you reading my spankin' new blog. As some of you may know, I leave for Auckland, New Zealand in approximately 9 days. This blog will feature pictures and exciting info from my 2 month trip.
Manawa Ora is the Maori word for hope, which is exactly what I wish to give and gain from this experience. Right now I am working through the wonderful book, The Whale Rider, which was also turned into an indie film. I have been so inspired by the Maori vision and am really looking forward to embracing the kiwi (a.k.a New Zealand) way of life.
Here's what I know so far:
I will be teaching year 10 English at
Hebron Christian College
1 McLean Street
Mt Albert 1025 New Zealand
I am living with a host family, the Heeringas, who have 4 kids. Their two youngest, Willa and Theo, will trek the ten minute walk to school with me every morning. They have pet chickens, bees, and a puppy.
Maori word of the day:
Aroha compassion, tenderness, sustaining love
More to come...
